Privacy

No ad trackers, no account needed, and a cookie only if you sign in. This page says exactly what is recorded and why.

Visit counts

FandomMap runs its own counter, on its own server, to see which pages are read. For each page view it keeps the page path, the referring site (host only), any utm_ campaign tags in the link you followed, and four coarse buckets read from your browser's request: device type (phone, tablet, desktop), operating system, browser family, and the language it prefers. Your country is worked out from your IP address on our server, and only the two-letter country code is kept.

The IP address itself is never stored. Repeat visits within a day are told apart by a one-way hash of the day, a secret, your IP and your browser string; it changes every day and cannot be turned back into an address. The counter sets no cookie, and nothing follows you between days or across sites. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, nothing is recorded at all.

Country lookup uses the free IP Geolocation by DB-IP database (CC BY 4.0).

Outbound links

When you click a ticket, official-site, hotel or partner button on an event page, we count the click (which event, which button, your country and device bucket) with the same hash and the same rules as above. Some hotel and tour buttons are affiliate links: FandomMap earns a commission on bookings made through them, at no extra cost to you. Ticket links always go to the official seller. What the partner site records once you are there is governed by its own privacy policy.

Following and your account

Following a fandom, guest or event without an account keeps the list in your own browser (local storage); nothing is sent to us.

An account is optional. It holds your email address, what you follow, whether you want alert emails, and, if you set one, a home city rounded to about a kilometre with the distance you pick, so alerts only cover events near you. Signing in sets one cookie, FMS, that keeps you signed in for up to 90 days; it is the only cookie FandomMap sets, and only for people who sign in. Sign-in links are single-use and expire after 20 minutes.

Alert emails go out when a fandom, guest or event you follow is announced; every one has a link to stop them. If you press I’m going on an event while signed in, you are counted in that event’s public total (“14 fans going”): only the number is shown, never who; signed out, it stays in your browser and isn’t counted. The city search on your account page asks OpenStreetMap's Nominatim only when you press Find. Importing from AniList reads your public profile (or, if you connect your account, the favourites and lists AniList shows you) once, to suggest what to follow; we keep only what you choose to follow, never your AniList login. You can delete the account, and everything above with it, from your account page at any time.

Adding or correcting an event

The Add an event form stores what you type, plus your email address if you give one (to ask a follow-up question or tell you the event is live) and your IP address for a short while, to stop floods of automated submissions. Submissions are reviewed by a person before anything reaches the map.

Maps and fonts

Map tiles are loaded from the tile provider named in the map's corner, and page fonts from Google Fonts; each sees the request your browser makes for them, as with any image on the web. The location picker on the Add-an-event form queries OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service only when you type a place or click the map.
